About the Framework
This framework was developed as a resource for educational researchers, video creators, and chemistry instructors. What would you like to do today?
Familiarize yourself with the framework
Explore each of the elements of the framework. This will give you and overview and a allow you to see underlying research.
Train to use the framework

What should you to considering as you are looking at making videos? Let the framework be a guide.
Planning on using the framework for research?
- Be sure to articulate topic specific criteria for your concept of interest for the following elements: Johnstone’s Triangle, Core Ideas, and Causal Mechanistic Reasoning. You can see examples of these for all of the topics we have evaluated by looking at our Topic Specific Information pages. Articulating in advance what these elements could/should look like and the different ways a topic can be approached (Core Ideas and Causal Mechanistic Reasoning) will make it easier to identify videos that meet your concept of interest, use the framework to evaluate videos, and identify where content gaps may exist.
- Experiences suggest that you turn the framework into a fillable form such as this Google Form (this will open a new tab). This form can be copied and modified to suit your particular concept and needs. Such a form makes it easier to compile data from your use of the framework to evaluate multiple videos. It is also critical to have multiple people coding videos!
